Sketchbook Unbound
Sketchbooks provide a space to play and explore. Although I have tried to commit to a sketchbook practice, the books and their bindings leave me feeling bound. I admit to being a messy painter. I have cultivated my explorations outside of the sketchbook, on various sized sheets of paper, using a variety of media. These “sketches” may be glued into books, stacked in piles or boxes, used as collage material, sorted through and recycled. Some of these pieces were explorations that led to larger works, some came later as an extension of a “finished” work.
